Omg, that cat somersaulting down the stairs! It really is a pretty decent depiction of the nonlinear process of getting somewhere with a writing project. My favourite bit is when the cat stops and has a little bath.
Omg, love it. How come nobody has put it so clearly before? I, too, need to know something, but never know much. And the magic happens in the writing, but I feel like it can only happen if I do some prep brain work. And that cat!!! 🐈
I’m a chaos gremlin. Although book 1 was totally pantsed… I didn’t even intend it as a novel. For book 2, I had a high level outline in the form of short bullet points. I’m also finding I like to think through a scene before I write it and when I get stuck, I take time off writing (sometimes weeks at a time) to figure it out before returning to the manuscript. But I don’t make many notes.
The Golden Spiral on the cats is genius! I love this post at so many levels. When it comes to write a story (my newsletter too) I’m a Christopher Columbus, I start aiming for the East Indies and end up in the Americas. Sometimes it’s like "well, that was fun" and I start exploring where I landed, other times is "I got horribly lost" and I use my tele-transport to go back and start over. Thank you so much Portia
I will tell people I'm a zippy weekend jaunter in a Model A, but actually I'm a bathtub sailor who wants to name each bubble
Truly resonate with the bathtub sailor, name-finding method!!

Truly an icon (and should we take cat's advice to pause writing and shower/bathe? Yes, yes I think we should)
